The sublime tranquility of the English countryside in its range of differing landscapes has been the inspiration of many poets and artists. The unique pastoral scenery reproduced by Gainsborough and Constable has been emulated in the ‘English Landscape Park’ by designers such as William Kent and Charles Bridgeman leading to the works of Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown.
